Creating my own web page has been a learning experience in numerous ways. I have learned how to use technology that before I was completely unaware of. I have observed how much detail and time goes into creating a web page. I have also learned skills I will use for years in the future. To complete this project, I had to go through a very lengthy process. First, I had to study the programs of Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash to understand their workings. I then created the site planning for my web page which consisted of defining a target audience and the web site's purpose. After this, I began to create my web page in Dreamweaver and create the flash I used on my home page. This entire process was tedious, sometimes annoying, but altogether an experience that I benefited from as a student and as an individual. As a student, I am now prepared with the skills to handle and understand a web page and I know more about a few programs that are used to create web pages. As an individual, I am aware of how important animation is to media, I appreciate the amount of skill that goes into creating web pages and animation, and I am more patient when handling a lengthy, difficult, but worthwhile project. What I found to be the most difficult part of this task was creating the flash animation that is on the home page. I found this challenging because to get all of the layers to behave exactly as I wanted them to involved an in depth knowledge of the program and patience for detail that I do not possess. While that was the most difficult part, the easiest aspect of this project was creating the links to all of the pages of the web site. This only involved using library items that included my links, which was not a complicated process. Throughout this process, I have met many of the social, civic, and academic learning standards. First, I have met standard 1.1, communicating effectively using oral, written, and technological formats, by using written and technological formats. I communicated in a written format by completing the content sections of my web page which include text and I have used technological formats by using Flash and Dreamweaver to express ideas. Second, I have met standard 1.2, meeting proficiency in the content and applied learning standards as outlined in the Rhode Island High School diploma system. I have done this by completing this task, proving that I have mastered the material which is part of receiving credit for the course. Third , I have achieved standard 1.4, demonstrating a use of reasoning and problem solving skills and strategies through analysis and synthesis of data and information, by solving several problems throughout the creation of my web site. I have overcome obstacles of design in the programs of Dreamweaver and Flash and continued to create my site. Next, I have met standard 2.1, demonstrating independence and collaboration, by working effectively alone and with others. I have been able to help others and work efficiently individually to complete this project. I have also met standard 2.2, practicing responsible use of technology systems, information, and software. I have done this by using all of the resources given to me only for creation of my web site; I have not used anything irresponsibly. Lastly, I have achieved standard 5.1, using technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. I have met this standard by using numerous web sites sources to gather information that benefited my web site and my personal knowledge. Overall, the completion of this web page has taught me novels about the creation of a web page and opened my eyes to the skill involved in making a web site.
