The Herding dog classification was created in 1983 and is the newest AKC classification. The dogs now in the Herding Group were originally in the Working Group. Dogs in the Herding Group have the ability to basically herd other animals.

Lassie, from the 1942 movie, "Lassie Come Home" was a collie dog.
