No one is positive on the subject of who created the alley oop. Some say that Al and Gerald Tucker from Oklahoma Baptist University were the first to execute it. others think it was David Thompson of North Carolina State University with Monte Towe and Tim Stoddard providing the lob pass. with Thompson's 44" vertical leap he could easily slam it down.

The term "Alley-Oop" came from the French term Allez hop, the yell of an acrobat before he would jump. this was originally a foot ball term describing a high arcing pass.
