Andy Irons began surfing as a young boy in his home island, Kauai. Because he lived so close to the water he was lucky enough to go out a lot. During his career he was often called arrogant and came off as "too cool", but that's because people didn't understand his dedication and they never expected him to be the next big thing. We now know that his aggresion lead him to be one of the hardest surfers to beat.

His attitude and strength propelled him to win three ASP champion titles and 19 other tour events. He was also named Surfer Magazines, 2002 surfer of the year. But he didn't stop there, he went on to beat Kelly Slater's nine-year title holder. Other titles he won in his life were Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters, Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) title. These wins made him the 2003 World Champion. Andy Irons is the only surfer to ever win all three titles two years in a row. He was inducted into the Surfer's Hall of Fame in 2003. Amoung thhe awards, trophies, and titles is a man who holds the key to competive surfing.
