Lacrosse was first played by the native Americans who invented the game. Back then however the rules were a lot different. They played with over a hundred people and the field could be a couple of miles long or shorter. They also used wooden sticks and heads with leather instead of plastic sticks with mesh heads which werent invented yet.It was deeply religous to the native americans and they played it as part of a ceremonial ritual. The first person to change it closer to its modern form was William Beers. He changed the game to 12 players per team, a shorter feild and different rules. After that it has kept gainning increasing popularity and was even a demonstration sport in some olympics. Then in 1970 plastic shafts and heads were invented which made the sport gain even more popularity because the cost of the sport decreased.
