Have you ever spent time surfing the Internet and going to different web pages? In Web Design, we recently completed a common task that required us to design our own web page. The assignment was for us to research a subject of our choice and then design a website about that subject. In order to complete this task, we had to learn how to create a web site using Dream Weaver and a flash animation using Fireworks. We learned how to plan out a web site and how to set up the pages. Familiarity with web pages was a helpful background skill as it helped me to understand what I was trying to create. Important skills for this task included some I had, like familiarity with working on a computer and doing Internet research, and others I acquired, like management of a research and design project and the use of web design software.

The process used to complete the web site began with research of my subject, which was lacrosse. Once I had completed my research, I designed the lay out of the web site using Word. An obstacle I encountered was making a good flash animation about lacrosse. I overcame this by working through it several times until I was satisfied with the result. Once I had the lay out, I created the web site using Dream Weaver. My web site worked, but I checked it over numerous times to be sure there were no errors. This task helped me understand web design because it walked me through the process from beginning to end. I learned how to design a web page, how to set up links within a web page and how to create an index page and a work-cited page.

This task has been very helpful to me as a student. Technologically, I learned a great deal doing this task. I learned how to use web design software, which helped me to become more proficient in the use of technology and taught me responsible use of information and software. Researching my topic helped me improve my skills on how to locate, evaluate and collect information. Using my research to write a web page was a good method for me to effectively use oral, written and technological formats. I used my skills of analysis and synthesis to take my research and create my own web page from that data and information. Finally, this task helped me to develop my skills and behaviors demonstrating independence, since I did this task on my own. I found this task very interesting and I know that it has given me skills that will be useful for me in the future, as technology will continue to be an important tool throughout my education.
