I never knew how websites were created, as it turns out it is much easier to create a simple website than I thought. I had always thought that websites were created with a lot of typing code and long hours at a computer. I now know that they are often simple to create with a program called Dreamweaver. I learned about this because for this task I had to create a website using the Dreamweaver program. I had to have at least six pages of content about the subject that we picked. The website also had to have a flash animation related to the subject. My personal flash was an animated video of the band Muse playing on stage. To learn how to do these things I first learnt how to write code so that I understood how websites work. We then learned how to use Dreamweaver to create a website much more quickly. After we learned the process of creating websites we learned how to create a flash animation. We first made simple videos of balls moving back and forth. We then had to find a short flash video online and copy as much of it as we could in only a few classes.  The skills of creating a website and a flash animation were of the utmost importance to completing this class to proficiency. These were very important because they were what the main parts of the project were about.
To complete the website I had to decide what my topic would be. Once I had decided my topic, the rock band Muse, I had to decide what my audience would be. I decided that my audience would be people who are interested in the band and want to learn more about them.  I then had to have a template for what most of the pages would look like. Once had created the template I had to plan out what my flash animation would look like. I decided that it would be an animated video of Muse playing live. During this process I decided to use pictures of their guitars and basses instead of drawing them out. I had reached a roadblock at this point in the process. I could not figure out how to make the white backgrounds of the photos transparent. To find an answer to this problem I searched the internet for a way to make a white background transparent in Adobe Photoshop. I finally found out that to keep the transparent background I had to save the pictures as a different type of file. After I solved the problem the rest of the Flash animation was quite simple. Once I finished my flash animation I had to start work on my website. On my website I had to decide what types of pictures I would use and where I would put them. Once I figured out which pictures I wanted to sue I made a navigation bar for the page that would bring the reader to any of the main pages on the website. This navigation bar is set at the top and bottom of each page to make it easier to get to every part of the web site. After setting up a navigation bar for each page I added content these pages and added the final hyperlinks to outside websites. This common task gave me a much greater understanding of how websites are created. I now understand that every website must be extensively planned, extensively troubleshot, and targeted for a specific audience.
This task has helped me as a student in many ways as a student because of its broad topic area. I learned how to plan well from this task because I had to plan out what my website was going to look like and what my Flash animation was going to look like. I also had to manage my time well because I had a set period of time to complete both the Flash animation and the website in. In the future I plan on using the specific skills I acquired from this task to help in getting a job where I may have to manage a website when the main computer professional is gone, but not on a long term basis. Overall this task has helped me develop in several ways and allowed me to acquire skill that I would never had had the chance to even know about without this common task.
