The Gibson Guitar Company was founded in 1896 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Company began by making arched solid top mandolins until Orville Gibson invented the archtop guitar. In the 1930's, the Gibson corporation began to explore the idea of an electric guitar. They released one model before World War II, the ES-150 "Electric Spanish" model. Once WWII began instrument production basically stopped and did not completely resume until 1948 with the release of the Les Paul, still one of the most popular guitars today. Many people wanted a double-cutaway design and in 1961Gibson delivered with the SG "Solid Guitar". Gibson guitars were used by many famous musicians such as Keith Richards, Jeff Beck and Peter Green.
