Amphiuma

  • aquatic salamanders
  • also known as " congo eels" or " congo snakes"
  • elongated body
  • generally grey-black in color
  • very small legs
  • can be up to 1 m long, but their legs measure only up to about 2 cm
  • They have many teeth and can cause extreme pain if they bite.
  • Larvae have external gills, which disappear 4 months after hatching and the lungs start to work
