Ice hockey is a team sport played on ice. It is most popular in cold areas where it can be consistenly played outside during the winter. Although it is one of the four major North American sports, it is the least watched of the four in the United States. It has a much larger following in Canada, where it is the official national winter sport.
|Goalie||Stays mainly in the crease that surrounds the net and blocks shots. Each team plays one goalie.|
|Defenseman||Main purpose is to defend the goalie and stop the other team from scoring. Each team normally plays two defensemen at a time.|
|Forward||Main purpose is to score on the opposing team. Each team typically has three forwards on the ice at a time: two wingers and one center.|
