Third Year

Mariner Hockey 2006-2007

Coming into the third year the hockey team had some high hopes for themselves. Loosing only two seniors to graduation they now had a lot more experience then the year before with an older team. They started the year off with a win and looked to be a very strong force in a young but talented south division. Cox cable even televised a game against rival prout. The Mariners lost that game to prout for the first time ever but that lost helped spark the mariners to step up their game. Installing a new trap style to their game, the Mariners were able to beat future state champions North Kingstown, and previously undefeated Saint Raphals giving St. Rays their only loss of the year. With a strong record and a 7 and 1 run to end the season the Mariners were able to with their division for a second year in a row, and grab the 4th seed in the playoffs. In the first round they had to play 5th seed woonsocket who moved down to division III that year. In the best of three series the Mariners played very well and were able to beat woonsocket to move on to the semi-finals against top seeded St. Rays. In the first game at Pawtuckett the Mariners were able to win 6 to 3, they they lost at home 5 to 1, and in the decesion game three they lost in a thriller 6 to 4. Even though they were elimanted from the playoffs the mariners were very proud of what they had accomplished in their short 3 year history and they knew what they had done was pretty special in itself.
