Walter Kovacs was born into a horrible world, with his father gone and his mother constantly selling herself to other men. Growing up with nothing but his mother's constant beatings, the tauntings of schoolchildren for being the son of a whore, he grew violent and angry as the years passed. As he approached young adulthood, he got a job in a clothes shop. One day, a customer returned a dress she didn't like with fabric that had black blotches that constantly shifted according to the body heat of the wearer. Upon returning to her home, the customer was raped and killed in fornt of her own apartment, while others who were nearby either did nothing or watched. Enraged by such a human aspect, Walter cut out "a face that he could bare to look at in the mirror" using the dress, and he was out on the streets fighting crime. Certain cases he has taken has changed him drastically over his years of crime fighting into a psychotic and cryptic person.
