A colder, darker New York starts up vigilantic activity as the next big form of self-expression in a group of fighters who take the law into their own hands. Calling themselves the Minutemen, they acted as New York’s symbols of freedom, strength and justice. As they slowly became older and less of a necessity, however, others decided to follow in their footsteps, through admiration, accident, some even on their own motives. Dubbed by the furious and rioting society of the sixties as the “Watchmen”, they quickly brought the public into check by means deemed absolute and through some even thought impossible. It came to the point where the government had to force them into retirement in the late 70’s, only keeping those few who were America’s symbols of absolute power and patriotism. Some chose to happily abide, others chose…quite the opposite. Fast forward to 1985, where Nixon is serving as President for his third term and America is slowly deteriorating under the anxiety and violence of life and death. After one of their comrades, the Comedian, is suddenly thrown out of his apartment window, the vigilantes who were forced into retirement are presented with a new sort of problem. Even with a victory in Vietnam from one of these vigilantes’ help, the Cold War is not over, but slowly escalating into what could become World War III. There is a conspiracy, and someone means to get rid of them. But the question is, who could perform such a feat? How are their identities known by anyone? Who watches the Watchmen?
