How good the waves are suprisingly has a lot to do with the moon! Why is this?
The waves have a lot to do with the moon because of the fact that the oceans tides are created by the moon. The moon is attracted to the Earth and pulls on everything it can from the Earth. However, the water is always moving, so the Earth cannot hold onto it, like it can with everything else. Therefore, the moon is able to pull on the water, causing the tides to change, making the waves higher, or lower. When the moon is at different phases, it pulls the water in different ways causing there to be better or worse waves.

...Who would have thought that surfing had anything to do with science?
