       Pole Vaulting is an athletic field event in which a competitor uses a long, flexible pole to aid him in leaping ofer a bar. The pole is usually made of either fiber glass or carbon fiber because of their flexibility . This event dates back to the ancient Greeks aswell as the Cretans and Celts. It has been a full metal event at the olympics for men since 1896 and for women since 2000.
