Web Design Reflection

Knowing how to create a website is very important skill today’s technologically-centered society. For this common task I created a multi-page website with Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 and a flash animation with Macromedia Flash MX 2004. Before completing this task, I learned how to plan, manage, and create websites, and how to create many different types of flash animations. I created numerous different websites that involved elements, such as tables, hyperlinks, and images, that are key to making a user friendly site. I demonstrated skills in the reading, synthesizing, and organizing information. These skills are important in completing research projects and were necessary in order for me to create website with a uniform style, organized and accurate information, and attention grabbing visuals.

In order to create my website, I first decided on my topic, the sport of throwing the javelin, and researched it. Then I made a website plan and a plan of my index page on Microsoft Word. After I planned out the entire website, I constructed it using Dreamweaver creating a total of 19 individual web pages. Lastly, I created my flash animation and put it on the index page of my website. I encountered obstacles involving keeping the style of my website consistent and with making my flash animation complex and visually pleasing. I overcame the obstacle involving style by basing all of my web pages of the formatting of the index page. I overcame the obstacle I faced with flash animation by looking at examples of animations on the internet, and basing the movement of my stick figure off of online suggestions. This task reinforced the skills I learned involving Dreamweaver and Flash. The task also helped me realize the importance of creating a website, which I now know how to do.

The completion of this task has made me more technologically inclined and capable of creating products using computers. I anticipate using the skills I learned with Dreamweaver and Flash both in and out of school when I am creating websites. Not only will I use the skills when creating websites, but also in general when I am using a program I am not familiar with.
