In 1897, young students developed a sports group called Football Club Sky. An important group of players left Sky and, unofficially, presided over newly established Madrid Football Club. After a while of playing on a rented piece of land, Madrid Football Club was officially founded on March 6th, 1902. On 13 May 1902, at the first Spanish Championship the first Madrid vs. Barcelona match was played. Barcelona won 3-1 thanks to their six foreign recruits. At the 1916 Cup finals one of Barcelona's players fought against the fourth goal scored by Madrid saying that it was off sides. Madrid won the cup, but after the game there was much commotion over the game. Rocks were thrown at Madrid's bus...and so the rivalry began. On29 June 1920 Madrid was granted the the title of Real creating what we know today as Real Madrid.
