Creating a Website Reflection

In an increasingly technological world, computer skills are cruicial. For this task, Creating a Website, I was required to make a website using Adobe Dreamweaver concerning a topic of my choice. I chose the television sitcom, That 70s Show, to be my topic. I also had to create a flash animation using Adobe Flash to put on my website. For the past semester, I have been learning the basics of html in order to understand the coding going into my website. I also learned how to work Dreamweaver, creating a root folder for my website, tables, library items, etc. Additionally, I completed numerous activities within Flash to solidify my basic skills to create animations. By completing this task, I acquired coding and animation skills that far surpassed my expectations. I understand basic html and know how to code and use Dreamweaver efficiently. These skills were the basis of this task—without them, it would have been impossible to complete the task as well as I have done. To create my website, I made a root folder to put my website in. I referred back to my organizer to create the website, the pages, and the way they link together. I created an index page, six character pages correlating to the six main characters in the show, a reflection page, and a works cited page. These character pages gave a short bio and description about the characters. Sometimes, while using Dreamweaver, I would encounter unexplainable problems. For example, at one point all my links turned purple on only one page and I had no idea why! I had to troubleshoot, tinker with the code, and fiddle with the program. Eventually, after poking around for a bit, I found the cause of the problem. After I set a css code for visited links, the purple disappeared. The links had been turning purple because that was the default color for visited links. In that case, it was not something I did, but something I did not do. This technique proved effective, solving most of my errors. By completing this task, it forced me to delve deeper into html and css than I had previously in the class in order to get my desired effect. I looked up new codes on the internet, therefore expanding my knowledge of coding. For example, I did not like the borders, so I looked up the code in order to change them to a different style. By completing this task, I got a lot of practice in web designing, understanding the process more thoroughly than I did before. I now realize how web designers go about creating websites using Dreamweaver. By completing this task, I feel as though I have become more meticulous. When coding, it is necessary to pay attention to every detail, because even one small mistake can mess up the entire code. Paying attention to detail is a crucial skill I have acquired from the completion of this task. Additionally, I feel as though I have become more tech-savvy due to this class and task. I will use the skills learned from this task in future computer classes, as well as in my own free time. The world is becoming increasingly technological and I am glad I will have the skills necessary to tackle it head on!
