Before SpongeBob was created the show was supposed to be called “SpongeBoy” but Bob Burden claimed that name so they changed it to Spongebob. The first episode was aired in 1999 on Nickelodeon was called episode “Help Wanted/ Reef Blower/ Tea at the Treedome.”

After that the show became very popular so they continued to make a second season with better animation. From then until today there are 10 seasons and new episodes continue to come out. Through these seasons they added specials that have Patchy the Pirate and Potty the Parrot narrating them. These specials are double the length of normal episodes that were usually about 11 minutes long. In 2002 they had started to make “The SpongeBob Squarepants” movie, which became an instant hit that earned over $85,000,000 in revenue in the US.

In season five the creator released their first TV movie in 2006 called “Atlantis SquarePantis.” Many famous people voiced characters that stared in special episodes.

Johnny Depp was one of those famous people who voiced Jack Kahuna Laguna, known as JKL, in a special episode called “SpongeBob vs. The Big One,” in April of 2009.
