Early Life:

Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin was born September 17, 1985 in Moscow, Russia. Ovechkin is the son to Mikhail Ovechkin, a proffesional soccer player, and Tatyana Ovechkina. He has two siblings, Sergei, who died in a car accident when Alex was 10, and another brother Mikhail. \

Early Hockey Life:

Alex first fell in love with hockey when he was two years old when he got his first toy hockey stick from a local toy store. From this day forward Alex didnt care about anything besides hockey. Early in his career he almost had to give up because his parents couldnt get him to the rink for practice. One of Ovechkins coaches noticed the talent and convinced them to try and make it work.

Proffesional Career:

Alex Ovechkin began his pro career at age 16 in the Russian Super League, the proffesional league in Russia. Ovechkin played three seasons for Dynamo Moscow, his pro team. Ovechkin would become the first overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, goign to the Washington Capitals, and in 2005 would make his NHL debut. In his first career game ovechkin had 2 goals and the capitals won the game. Ovechkin has never played for any other NHL team besides the Washington Capitals.

International Career:

Ovechkin has played for team Russia in the Olympics and in the IIHF World Championships.
