IC 1101

This galaxy, the largest in the universe, resides about a billion light-years away. Its core, to the farthest point, is about two million light years, and, by some estimates, in total about six million light years across. The galaxy has a mass of about 100 trillion stars. It is so enormous that if placed on top of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is a measly 100,000 light-years across, it would cover, the two mini-galaxies that orbit the Milky Way, and its two nearest neighboring galaxies.
