The largest planet in our solar system, and King of the Planets. Named after Jupiter, king of the Roman gods, this gargantuan gas giant is 142,800 kilometers in diameter and hasd a mass of 1.9e27 kilograms. The planet is composed of mostly hydrogen and helium, with small amounts of methane, ammonia, and water. It has a total of 62 moons, the four largest of which, are called the Galilean Moons. They are named, Callisto, Europa, Ganymede, and Io. The most identfiable aspect of Jupiter is the Great Red Spot, an enprmous storm twice the size of Earth that has been raging since Jupiter was first observed by telescope. Jupiter also has a ring system, but is too faint to be seen from Earth.
