Why protect endangered animals?

Animals, plants, and all other living things that make up the world's ecosystems play a vital role in the balance and diversity of the world. When certain species are threatened, that balance is thrown off. Not only does the loss of a species throw the ecosystem off kilter, but it slows the development of new medicine, and hurts our ability to adapt to natural disasters and even global warming.

What does it mean to be endangered?

According to the United States Fish & Wildlife Services, "The term 'endangered species' means any species which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range."
