Positions in Volleyball

In volleyball there are six players on each court at one time. Each player for a team has a specific job when they are playing a position.

A setters job is to get the ball to a hitter. They use the tips of their fingers to push the ball up and over to whoever calls for the ball. Typically the hitters call out numbers to a setter so they know where to push the ball to, rather than hearing words and getting confused. The setters typically get the second hit out of three allowed per side.

In volleyball, there are left-side hitters, right-side hitter, and middle hitters. The left-side and middle hitters are more likely to get the ball because the setter will push the ball forward rather than backward. When you play right-side hitter, the ball will be pushed back to you. Right-side hitters mainly block along with the other front row player.
