E. School Improvement Teams
In accordance with R.I. Gen Laws § 16-53.1-1, et seq. the Superintendent and the principals of the Narragansett School System shall establish a school improvement team for each school in the district, and shall develop procedures for the election and appointment of School Improvement Team members. The team members shall normally be selected at the beginning of each school year and shall serve for a term of one year, which may be renewed.
Each School Improvement Team shall be comprised of the principal and an appropriately balanced number of teachers, education support employees, students, parents, and other business and community citizens who are representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school. Members representing teachers, education support employees, students, and parents shall be selected by their peer groups at the school in a fair and equitable manner.
The School Committee may, from time to time, establish a separate district-wide school improvement team representative of the district generally and comprised of teachers, students, parents, and other citizens or a district School Improvement Team which may be comprised of representatives of each School Improvement Team.
Each School Improvement Team shall assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plans and shall provide any assistance that the principal may request in preparing the school's annual budget and plan as required by law. School principals will make an annual presentation of their SIT plan to the School Committee. Each School Improvement Team shall perform any additional functions that are prescribed by regulations of the School Committee but no School Improvement Team shall have any of the powers and duties reserved by law to the School Committee.
